2010-11 Spiritual Emphasis Theme

"Pursuit of the Knowledge of God"

Verse: Ephesians 1:17 “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.'"

Each year the entire school focuses on a Spiritual Emphasis Theme keeping God's plan and will for our lives in the forefront of everything we do.   Each week students memorize scriptures that align with this theme.  Christian virtues of faith, hope, love, wisdom, justice, courage, moderation, integrity, and perserverance will be the monthly topics for discussion and thought.

Statement of Faith

The basis of faith shall be the Word of God as interpreted by the following:

1)  We believe that the Bible, made up of 66 books, verbally inspired and free from error in doctrine, fact and ethics,  i.e. inerrant, is the Word of God and the only infallible and authoritative rule of faith and practice.

2)  We believe in one triune God, eternally existent in three equal persons - Father, Son and  Holy Spirit.

3)  We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father and in His personal and physical return in power and glory.

4)  We believe that man was created in the image of God; that through sin he brought upon himself and his posterity, not only physical death, but also spiritual death which is separation from God; that all human beings by physical birth possess a sinful nature and are, therefore, actual sinners in thought, word and deed; and that man, as such, is condemned to hell and utterly unable to remedy his condition by himself or by ecclesiastical rite.

5)  We believe that the salvation of lost and sinful man is a free gift of God’s grace apart from works, based solely upon His vicarious and atoning death, effected by the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit and received by trusting in Christ’s finished work on the cross.

6) We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a Godly life.

7)  We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost - they that are saved, to the resurrection of life and they that are lost,  to the resurrection of damnation.

8)  We believe in the spiritual unity of all believers in

the Lord Jesus Christ.

Key Chapel Focus

A key focus of developing our students is to help them to be mission minded. This is accomplished through several means outside of the classrooms. We use guest chapel speakers who present the gospel and built upon the monthly Christian Character Traits and annual Spiritual Theme. These special speakers included area pastors, youth ministers, children's church directors, missionaries, special ministry teams, mission organizations, parents, and more. Every quarter our own students involve themselves in chapel presentation, drama, and music. Our very own Big Boys On Campus and Moms In Touch present chapels as well. Guest musicians such as The Carpenters Tools, Southwestern College, and our talented PVCP students present special chapel music.

Mission Offerings

Students are encouraged to reach out to the community through the weekly mission offerings and giving. Numerous ministries are supported. Missionaries on the field, World Vision, Sunshine Acres Orphanage, Phoenix Rescue Mission, Samaritans Purse, national disaster victims, Carpenters Tools International, Jews for Jesus, Creation Institute, Gideons, and Southwestern College were a few of the organizations that receive mission love offerings on behalf of the students. Additionally, support is provided to families in need of food and clothing through homeless ministries.

8th Grade Mission Trip Highlights

The 8th graders at PVCP participate in a Missions Trip each year.  The Loving Hands Mission Trip took place Feb.14-17 in Globe, Arizona.  Working with Arizona Reservation Ministries, ARM, these students and 13 chaperones did God’s work in many ways.  Throughout the time they were there, our students and chaperones worked clearing brush, unloading framed walls for a building, moving piles of metal scraps, building bunk beds, moving furniture, cutting trees and bushes, moving boxes, painting, tearing apart walls, raking brush, and hauling trash.   It was a lot of hard labor but the students worked tirelessly giving of themselves.  ARM will be opening a new office on a 45 acre piece of property that they recently acquired.  They have big plans and it was rewarding for everyone to be on the foundation of this exciting project!

Arizona Reservation Ministries services the Apache families on the San Carlos reservation.  Each afternoon, a group of students and chaperones took two converted school buses out onto the reservation to work with the Apache children and youth, sharing God’s love.  With the staff at ARM, we had a Bible lesson, shared scripture (and a snack!) and played with the children.  This was definitely the highlight of the trip for everyone.  To see what so many of our Apache brothers and sisters live with each day, allowed us to reflect upon how blessed we are and how we might serve God in future mission work.  It was a moving experience for all the PVCP students and adults.

Student Quotes:

“My experience was awesome because I was able to see how all the people actually work together and helping each other.  I thought it was soo cool that we were able to teach some of the kids about God on the bus."

"To sum everything up, I think that this was a great experience for me.  I saw how fortunate I was and how I needed to be content with whatever I had in my life."

"I learned alot about myself and other people, I learned that other people who don't have alot can still be happy, and I need to be like that.  I need to start putting my self in the hands of the Lord.  This trip was fun but still full of hard work.  The thing that made it fun for me was knowing I'm doing work for a cause of God."

Prayer Partners

Prayer partners provide another ministry of support for classmates and families. Younger children are paired with older students to pray for each other as they meet weekly. Faculty and staff meet daily to pray for the school families and children. The goal has always been to encourage one another and bathe our school in prayer. Faculty Devotions include in-depth studies that align with our spiritual theme for the year. Faculty also participate in prayer partners each Wednesday. This is a special time of prayer partnering and accountability between faculty.

Parents are provided opportunities to participate in the Big Boys on Campus who meet twice monthly to pray for PVCP and to encourage each other as spiritual leaders and role models in their homes and on campus and in Moms In Touch which pray weekly for our students, faculty, and families.

The PVC Prayer Chain

The PVC Prayer Chain Ministry is available to support families in prayer. To submit a prayer request please leave it in an envelope for Moms In Touch.

There is no doubt that Paradise Valley Christian Preparatory is dedicated to the continued pursuit of growing toward being mission minded!
